Foundation Design: Theory and Practice, 2011
In Foundation Design: Theory and Practice, Professor N. S. V. Kameswara Rao covers the key aspects of the subject, including principles of testing, interpretation, analysis, soil-structure interaction modeling, construction guidelines, and applications to rational design. Rao presents a wide array of numerical methods used in analyses so that readers can employ and adapt them on their own. Throughout the book the emphasis is on practical application, training readers in actual design procedures using the latest codes and standards in use throughout the world. Presents updated design procedures in light of revised codes and standards, covering: American Concrete Institute (ACI) codes Eurocode 7 Other British Standard-based codes including Indian codes Provides background materials for easy understanding of the topics, such as: Code provisions for reinforced concrete Pile design and construction Machine foundations and construction practices Tests for obtaining the design parameters Features subjects not covered in other foundation design texts: Soil-structure interaction approaches using analytical, numerical, and finite element methods Analysis and design of circular and annular foundations Analysis and design of piles and groups subjected to general loads and movements Contains worked out examples to illustrate the analysis and design Provides several problems for practice at the end of each chapter Lecture materials for instructors available on the book's companion website Foundation Design is designed for graduate students in civil engineering and geotechnical engineering. The book is also ideal for advanced undergraduate students, contractors, builders, developers, heavy machine manufacturers, and power plant engineers. Students in mechanical engineering will find the chapter on machine foundations helpful for structural engineering applications. Companion website for instructor resources: www.wiley.com/go/rao

A Review on Design of Pile Foundations in Bangkok
Boonchai Ukritchon
Geotechnical Engineering
A review was made on the design of pile foundations in Bangkok area. Particular attention was paid on design parameters based on local practice which had been reported during 1985 to 2012. An additional study was made on thirty six static load tests on instrumented piles, which were larger and longer than ones in the past. Parameters for the determination of bearing capacity and settlement were back analyzed and compared with those in the literature. Noteworthy studies in the past as well as findings in this study were then summarized and discussed.

SOIL EXPLORATION AND GEOTECHNICAL DESIGN OF A FOUNDATION
IRJET Journal
IRJET, 2023
Before the actual construction process starts, it is important to conduct a site investigation and soil exploration to acquire vital information about the soil and site conditions. In a construction site investigation is the first and crucial step. These are outlined in the project to ensure that the site is appropriate for the proposed construction and to offer recommendations on the design and construction processes. Following soil investigation based on the soil report, further geotechnical design of a shallow foundation was performed; however, the results indicated that the load coming from the structure was less than the results of the shallow foundation, so we opted for the geotechnical design of a pile foundation, which resulted at an end bearing capacity greater than the load coming from the structure. The geotechnical design of the pile consists of recommending the size of the pile and calculating the safe working load of each pile.

Seismic Design Considerations for Pile Foundations
Subhamoy Bhattacharya
2011
Pile foundations are adopted commonly for various types of multi-storeyed structures when the founding soil is weak and soft; and also in industrial structures, bridges, offshore structures. With increasing infrastructural growth and seismic activities, designing the pile foundations for seismic conditions is of considerable importance for the efficient function of the structures especially, the lifeline structures like bridges etc. Several studies were conducted by various researchers on the seismic analysis and design of the pile foundations and evolved different theories on the same. Codes of practice available in different countries suggested some procedures for seismic design of pile foundations. This paper presents a short discussion on the various theories evolved on seismic pile performance concepts followed by outlines of suggested procedures by selected international and Indian codes on the subject. A soil profile is selected from Assam, Dibrugarh area as an exemplary case...

Points to Ponder in Specifying Concrete and Designing of Pile and Shallow Foundations
Bandula Prasad
Society of Structural Engineers, Sri Lanka, 2023
Correct practice is the dominant characteristic of a successful structural design. The approach and use of the correct and relevant references are the main factors to be considered by the designer. In this paper, the use of the BS 8500-1:2015+A1:2016 and BS EN 197 are discussed in detail with special reference to specifying concrete and cement/cement combinations, the durability of structures, and limitations of chloride content. In addition, the pile foundation design aspect for seismic consideration and the method of evaluating the minimum depth of excavation for the foundation are discussed in detail.
